Baggage policy changes from Qantas

Qantas is introducing a new domestic checked baggage policy will take effect for tickets issued from 1 December 2010 for travel from 1 June 2011. This new policy will move the existing domestic checked baggage policy from a weight based system to a piece and weight based system.

There will also be some changes to checked baggage allowances on international routes (excluding to/from The Americas) to align with the new domestic checked baggage policy.

Domestic within Australia on Qantas

 

From 1 December 2010 for travel from 1 June 2011

Economy 1 piece (maximum 23kg)
Business 1 piece (maximum 32kg)
Qantas Club members 1 piece (maximum 32kg) regardless of travel class
Silver and Gold Frequent Flyers 1 piece (maximum 32kg) Economy
2 pieces (maximum 32kg each) Business
Platinum Frequent Flyers 2 pieces (maximum 32kg each) regardless of travel class

Total dimensions of each piece must not exceed 140cm (54in). Dimensions for checked baggage are calculated by adding together the width, height and depth of the piece of baggage.

Note: No single item of checked baggage may exceed 32kg (70lb).

 

International to/from all destinations (excluding The Americas)

Total dimensions for each piece must not exceed 158cm (62in). Dimensions for checked baggage are calculated by adding together the width, height and depth of the piece of baggage.

Note: No single item of checked baggage may exceed 32kg (70lb). Other than to and from the Americas, there is no restriction on the number of pieces within the weight allowance for international travel.
