Greetings from Cape Town

Thursday, 14th April 2011

Hi everyone

It's Lisa Scerri writing to you from beautiful Cape Town, South Africa where I am currently leading a Family Mission trip. We only have a few days left of our trip and it has been an inspiring journey to date.

The objective of this mission was to expose our children to the Third World (there are 15 children aged 4-14 years on the mission!) and for us to be able to serve and show the township people of Cape Town the love of Christ.

We have achieved this in many ways, but a highlight would have to be the soccer and netball clinics we ran every afternoon during the week of school holidays. It felt like hosting a party and not knowing who was going to show up.

So we walked the streets of the Capricorn township on that first day, accompanied by some local youth, and invited kids to come along. For the first session about 40 children turned up. By the third day we had well over 100 children and the gates to the compound had to be locked to keep more from streaming in! The week ended with a soccer and netball tournament with t-shirts and sports drinks for prizes.

The relationships we have been able to build and develop in a short time has surely been God-endorsed. There have been hugs, kisses, prayer and counsel. There have been cards and letters of Scripture and encouragement exchanged.

When on a short term mission, it is important to be realistic about what you can achieve. The blessings have most certainly been given and received both ways, and we trust that the conversations we have sown into people's lives are matured to produce a bountiful harvest for the glory of our Lord.

There are plans in the making for another team to Cape Town in April 2012. Children and families are most welcome. Our partner organisation here (www.livinghope.co.za) have a large range of ministries that can accommodate a variety of skills. We have for example had a number of the "dads" on the trip get alongside a Living Hope missionaries to offer business advice.Others helped re-build a shack that had burnt down leaving a young family homeless. There is no limit to how your skills can be used in a community that has so many needs!

So please prayerfully consider if this is something that you and your family might like to do in 2012. Please shoot me an email expressing your interest to lisa@missiontravel.com.au
