While travelling, your safety must be your highest priority. Here are some simple steps to protect yourself....
Check travel blogs, websites and mission agencies website for the latest information regarding travel safety.
Stay in touch - Inform friends or family of how they can reach you whilst you are away.
Keep copies - Prepare additional photocopies of your important travel documents to carry with you as well as to leave with friends or family.
Luggage - Have lockable luggage and keep important documents and your cash in a safe place upon arrival. When travelling with a laptop use a backpack or someother bag that conceals the fact you are carrying a computer.
ATMs - avoid going to an ATM on your own. Be careful that no-one is looking over your shoulder. Card skimming is a highly sophisticated business so if the ATM appears tampered with do not use it. For an excellent presentation on avoiding card skimming click HERE
Avoid public demonstrations - as fascinating as they can be!
